Condition & Authentication Guide

Shop with Confidence

Every piece at DETOURE is one-of-a-kind. Before it reaches you, it goes through a hands-on review — so you know exactly what you're getting.

Our Condition Grades

Each listing carries one of three condition grades, applied after physical inspection:

🏷 New With Tags

Never worn. Original tags still attached. The piece is in factory-fresh condition with no signs of use, washing, or alteration. What you'd expect buying retail — just at a fraction of the price.

✨ Like New / Like-New

Worn once or a handful of times, with no visible wear, pilling, fading, or odor. No missing hardware, broken zippers, or loose threads. Equivalent to a sample or gently tried-on piece.

📋 Good Condition (when noted)

Light signs of wear consistent with careful use — minor fabric softening or subtle creasing. Any notable details (a tiny mark, slight stretch in a strap) are always called out in the listing description or photos.

If a grade isn't listed above, it won't be in our inventory. We don't sell pieces that don't meet our bar.

How We Authenticate

For branded and designer pieces, our review includes:

  • Label & tag verification — we check care labels, country-of-origin tags, and brand hang tags for correct font, stitching, and placement consistent with the label's known production standards.
  • Hardware & construction check — zippers, clasps, seams, and stitching are inspected against what the brand is known to produce. Cheap hardware or irregular seaming is an immediate flag.
  • Sourcing transparency — many pieces are sourced directly from influencers and creators you already follow. The influencer's name is listed on every product page so you can trace the piece to its origin.
  • Photo documentation — every listing includes real photos of the exact item, including close-ups of labels and any wear details. The first image may be an AI-generated ghost mannequin to illustrate fit; all remaining photos show the actual piece.

We are a curated resale shop, not a third-party authentication service. For high-value designer goods requiring a formal certificate of authenticity, we recommend supplementing your purchase with a service like Entrupy or Real Authentication.

Sizing & Fit

Resale sizing is tricky — every brand runs differently, and vintage or international labels add another layer. Here's how to navigate it:

  • Check the listing size tag first. We list the size as labeled on the garment (e.g., S, LG, XS) along with the approximate US size equivalent where known.
  • Look at the model photo. When available, a second photo shows the item on a real model. The model's measurements or the influencer's publicly known size are noted when relevant.
  • Measure, don't guess. For the most accurate fit, measure your bust, waist, and hips and compare to the garment's flat measurements in the listing (where provided). A measuring tape beats size charts every time on one-of-a-kind pieces.
  • When in doubt, size up for comfort. Resale items can't be altered before shipping, so if you're between sizes, go with the larger one for dresses and fitted pieces.

Don't see garment measurements in a listing you're eyeing? Send us a message — we'll pull the flat measurements for you before you commit.
